Students in Michigan get a free iPod?

That’s exactly the question most people are asking themselves. House democrats in Michigan have proposed a plan that would purchase an iPod for every student in the state. Good idea? Who knows, but let’s see how the tax payers in Michigan will feel about paying higher taxes so that little Billy next door can watch the newest episode of South Park on his way to school.

While the exact details and financial calculations have not been released yet, many have started to predict the amount of financial strain this would provide to the already astounding budget deficit of more than $1 Billion.

The idea is that school teachers could then provide audio and/or video instruction to students who were not in the classroom, or details for homework assignments that would help the students comprehension.

We’ll just have to wait and see what becomes of this, but perhaps we will be seeing iPods break into schools nationwide. Steve Jobs is sure going to be happy.
