backpack.jpgVoltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack - Charge your gear as you hike.

The name says it all, the Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack is a daypack that host several small solar panels on the back of the bag. The idea is that the Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack can charge your small electronics such as MP3 players, cameras, etc as you travel. So, if you feel like jumping on the “go green” bandwagon, this is surely a must have.

The Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack comes with enough cords, adapters, and plugs to power up just about anything you can find. There are a total of 11 various adapters. The Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack produces about 4 watts of solar energy. The power is then stored in a small, on board, battery pack to keep you fully charged.

You might think that all these solar panels, plugs, and wires turn the inside of the Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack into a spider web of electronics. Actually, just about everything is hidden and easily accessible through a series of wire channels to make sure you stay organized.

  • 4 Watts of Solar Power: From three tough, light weight, waterproof solar panels
  • 4-6 hours of direct sunlight produce enough charge to fully charge a typical cell phone - see charging times
  • Battery Included: 4,400mAh at 3.6 volts Li-Ion battery pack with 3 voltage settings to store solar power
  • When not in the sun, the battery can be charged using the AC travel charger or DC car charger making it just as useful on the grid as off
  • 11 standard adaptors for easy connections to common cell phones and universal plugs
  • Includes a car charger socket and USB adaptor so you can always use a standard charger for your device

Unfortunately, the Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpack is not designed to power up laptops. Once they figure out how to get enough solar power to do that, I’ll be all over spending the $250 for one of the Voltaic Backpack Solar Powered Backpacks.

I’m with you about the capacity for this backpack to create a usable charge - charging my cell phone? That doesn’t take much, about an AA battery’s worth. My MP3 player/iPod takes much more, and my laptop a HUGE amount mroe. I’d not be willing to dole out the dough just for a few calls- let alone, it must be HEAVY!!! with all that gear stuffed in there, where’s the room for the stuff you want to carry in your backpack?

But yea, when it’ll charge my laptop I’ll probably annie up.
