The iPod mash-up

With the warm weather rapidly approaching, and people competing for vacation time, finding some quality alone time may prove to be quite the challenge. I know when I try to spend some time along, I usually do it with my iPod. With the new ideas for integrating your iPod into your daily life, it can be confusing what to purchase, which iPod is really worth it for you, what gadgets should you buy, and lastly, how much money you actually want to spend. Obviously there is no limit to the amount of money that one could spend on their personal music collection and iPod accessories, but that doesn’t mean that you need everything that is available, so let’s take a closer look and hopefully narrow it down a bit.

iPod Video
ipod-video.jpgWithout getting into the various capacity sizes, because they vary based on the needs of each person, the iPod video is the flagship of the iPod line. The video has been around for over a year now, and slowly the older versions of iPod have been phased out by the larger, yet thinner version with a color screen and video playing abilities. Remarkably, the battery life of the video has not suffered compared to the older 20gb version of the iPod. While the price tag is slightly higher than the click-wheel iPod, the video brings more capacity and capability to the table, making it a great companion for a plane ride, killing time at a mall, or while out for a walk.

What is cool about it
The video can play videos. Go figure.
Decent battery life, meaning you can watch your videos for longer than you’d probably think.
Basically a personal DVD player that can store hours of movies, music and pictures.
When hooked into your car stereo, you don’t ever need to use the tuner again.
Can be used as a portable hard-drive

iPod Nanoipod-nano-1gb-review.jpg
This is the updated version of what used to be the iPod Mini. Much smaller, lighter, and sleeker in appearance, the Nano retains decent storage capacity in a small package, making it the ideal workout partner. Apple has even paired with Niketo develop a running shoe with a place for a transmitter chip that can be paired with your Nano that tracks your distance, pace, and helps you cater your music to your motivational needs. While the capacity might not be as much for someone with a massive music library, most casual users would probably find the space just right.

What is cool about it
Very portable.
No hard disk, so running or exercising with it won’t cause damage to the storage like other versions may.

iPod ShuffleIpod Video
While not the most popular version for most people, it may be a popular version for those on a budget. It’s not uncommon to find a Shuffle for around $60, making it a great gift for someone who may have everything else. While it doesn’t have a screen to display the song, it manages to store about 50 songs onto the onboard memory, again without a hard-drive.

What is cool about it
Very, very portable.
Much cheaper than the other versions
