Still Stuck on That RFID Chip in Your Passport?

Last week, I talked about one of the simplest ways to keep that passport mugshot of yours from being flashed every 4 minutes on CNN.

But… as cult leaders continue to predict doomsday nay-sayers of RFID continue to argue that there will definitely be ways around to all those safety precautions and that your data will eventually be stolen, you may want to resort to other ways to make sure that the data in your newly-issued E-Passport is safe.

rfid_passport.jpgSince (1) it is way too late for you to wish that your old RFID-less passport still have several years to go, or (2) conveniently forgetting to take it out of your pants before you wash it will just clean it, or (3) using your microwave to dry it won’t destroy it, you have no other option but to deactivate that RFID chip in your passport.

How? Bash the chip with a hammer.

A sure-fire way to keep anyone from getting to that sensitive information which you have in your passport.

There’s a catch, though. Tampering with your passport is illegal and could put you in jail for 25 years.

So, would you rather go to jail or do you prefer to become (in)famous first and then go to jail… and then, prove that you were just a victim of identity theft. Your choice.

No jail time required. I’ll just tell them my passport accidently fell into that sheet metal flattening machine.
