Once again, our connections get us more free stuff. Just kidding. Whenever we have to send things back, I always have mixed feelings. Some of the gadgets are more practical than others, some work better, others don’t quite live up to their claims, where others exceed them. It’s always hard to know if you’ve got a good example of a gadget on your hands when you unpack them, but there are a few things that stand out right away.

The Lightwedge Paperback Book Light is basically a sheet of clear plastic that lights up. I was skeptical if it would work as well as the pictures claimed, and I was surprised once I tried it out. The light gives off a nice WHITE hue. Many of these lights that use LEDs tend to give off a more of a cyan color, that can hurt your eyes and give you a headache if you are at all sensitive to lights at night. The Lightwedge book light simply lights the plastic lens, and reflects the light onto the page which it is sitting on top of. This is nice, because it really doesn’t give off much light to the surrounding area, making it fairly dicreet, and nice for the people around you who may be trying to sleep.

One gripe that I did have is that there seems to be a small deadspot on the lens, in the middle, that can be sort of hard to see. I have perfect vision, so considering that someone may not, there could be a slight problem trying to read, but I doubt it would effect many. There is another version of the LightWedge Book Light, which is slightly larger which we did not test, but it may or may not suffer from the same dark spot. Also, you have to be fairly careful about the lens because it CAN scratch and scuff.

Why you need one:
They’re not really expensive, at $24.99
Gives off enough light to read comfortably while not disturbing those around you, great for home, an airplane, a car.

Why you could pass:
You may not have a practical use for it, unless you read in one of those locations listed above.
It’s not BIG, but I would not tell you it is completely unnoticable.

Rating: 9 out of 10

The Bottom Line: It does what it’s claimed to do, which is more than many gadgets can say. I didn’t give it a 10 because of the practicality issues, however, if you have a use for it, it’d work as well as anything else out there, if not better.
