How To Save Your Wet Mobile Phone

Unless you have a waterproof mobile phone or, at least, a waterproof mobile phone case, you might want to make sure that your phone is kept dry. I know… Duh! But, believe me, there is no such thing as never having a duh moment!

Accidents do happen. Mobile phones can slip from your grasp and fall into a puddle. You could accidentally spill coffee over it. It could even fall out of your pocket as you get up and flush the toilet (this happened to a friend of mine).

So, apart from the obvious fact that you need to keep liquids away from your phones, you also need to know what can be done should your mobile phone get wet.

First-Aid treatment for your wet mobile phone:

  • Remove the battery to cut power because, apparently, many circuits inside the phone will survive immersion in water provided they are not attached to a power source when wet.
  • Remove the SIM card. Note, though, that this action serves more to save your data than to save your phone.
  • Dry it quickly with a cloth to prevent more water from going inside.
  • Let it stand upright to allow free air flow.

According to WikiHow, you can also soak it in denatured alcohol.

Alcohol is hydrophobic and will seem to draw out most of the water in the phone, which will then pour out of the phone with the alcohol. Any remaining alcohol will evaporate.

However, if some nitwit pushed you out of the yacht, you need to do things differently in order to save your phone due to the salt in the water. You can follow the slink spot’s advice and cook the phone. I wouldn’t recomment this solution, though.
