Hard Drive Care
By Melissa | Permalink |An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
An old adage which we should also keep in mind when it comes to our gadgets. Of course, it pays to know the how-tos in “curing” our tech toys but it also is probably best (less expensive) to take preventive measures.
Caring for our hard drives, whether in our computers, video recorders, audio players, digital organizers, and/or digital cameras is one good example.
Hard drives store digital information in a relatively permanent form. That is, if nothing happens to your hard drive.
To PREVENT your hard drive from crashing, you can:
- Make sure that it does not overheat.
- Install an anti-virus software or a firewall to prevent viruses from attacking your system thus, keeping your files safe.
You can also monitor your hard drive’s health by installing Hard Drive Inspector 1.7. “Hard Drive Inspector is a new software application that monitors hard-drives for possible problems and alerts PC owners when things go or might go wrong.”
Of course, this is not foolproof. Hard drives do, after all, weaken with constant use. So, it is also best to protect your data just in case something does happen.
Too late with preventive measures? Ontrack may have something for you.
And don’t say that it’s not going to happen to your hard drive! You may not be as stupid as they were but it still could happen, you know.
