Blackberry Red Pearl

Red Pearl
If you were waiting for it, don’t wait any longer. If you weren’t, maybe you should have been. That is, if you haven’t dropped $600 for an iPhone and buyer’s remorse hasn’t bitten you. The new Pearl is thinner, lighter, sports a music player, a memory card slot, and has voice dialing. The typical trackwheel that the Blackberry has been famous for (that’s probably worse than good) has been replaced by a four way trackball. Flip the phone over, and there is a 1.3 megapixel camera as well as a small vanity-er, portrait mirror. Onboard memory isn’t anything to rave about, (64mb, pretty typical) but with the microSD capacity, you can now expand it to much more than you’ll probably need.

On a random note, the Pearl looks strikingly similar to this family of Song Ericsson phones.

The one drawback is that if you don’t have AT&T already, and have the ability to extend a contract for a reduced price, or the ability to sign a new contract, you’re going to be paying about $500 for this phone. At that price, one must ask, is it better than the smaller iPhone?

Check AT&T or Amazon.com for prices and plans.
